What a gull actually carries

You recruit the Birdkeeper, research the house, and pick seagulls up at map points of interest the same way you pick up people. The specialists guide says a gull carries one floating piece at a time — plastic, wet wood or seaweed — over about the range of a boat, a little faster than the boat, and it eats less than a drifter. Bird Chow is the food. What happens if you never feed them is not written down, so I will not invent a death timer. The codex prices the Birdhouse at 4 floaters, 10 planks and 2 ropes.

Two achievements make the hobby countable. Gull-friend is rescue 10 seagulls. Gull-Bossing It is more seagulls than drifters. Both names are the official Steam strings.

Whether they are worth the wood

The same specialists guide argues that a salvage boat already does the birdhouse’s job. An older Early Access thread says rescuing a gull before the house exists can lose the bird. I treat that as a risk note from Early Access, not as a 1.0 rule I have a second source for. Treated plank shows up in a December 2025 thread whose title is about the birdhouse, and fish oil from gobblers is mentioned as an ingredient, but the crafting building and the counts are missing. That is why treated plank is a row on the resource table and not its own essay.
